Position: Associate Scientist II for the U.S. CLIVAR Project Office

Responsibilities: Cathy Stephens has served as an Associate Scientist at the U.S. CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability) Office since January 2004. She is an employee of University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (Boulder, Colorado). Stephens has published several scientific papers on El Nino, Pacific decadal variability and air-sea fluxes. She received a Gold Medal from the Department of Commerce in 2002 for her research on the warming of the world’s oceans. She currently works closely with the scientific community, federal research agency program managers, the Climate Change Science Program (CCSP), and international programs to advance and coordinate scientific program development, program outreach, as well as inter-agency consideration and implementation of CLIVAR within the United States. CLIVAR is a major contributor to the Climate Variability and Change element of the CCSP Strategic Plan.
